United States: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that growing vaccine skepticism is the primary cause of the high disease case rate in the United States.
What do you know about measles?
In 2000, the US was declared measles-free. As per the CDC, it is considered one of the most transmissible diseases, which has been found growing in some northeastern US states.
In the early 1900s, measles had become a national problem in the US. However, after the induction of the vaccine in 1963, the number of cases sharply reduced in the coming few decades.
The nationwide vaccination program proved effective, which involved a routine intake of vaccines by the people when they began schooling, and then by 2000, the cases of measles were contained in the US, as reported by The Guardian.
However, it is spreading again since the growing number of unvaccinated people is rising.
CDC warning for the health providers to be on alert
The health authorities have been sending warnings to alert healthcare providers regarding the rising trend of measles in the country and have urged them to be on alert for any exigencies.

According to the CDC emails sent to healthcare workers last week, 23 confirmed cases of measles were reported in the US from 1 December 2023 to 23 January 2024.
The children and teenagers were most affected, who were unvaccinated despite being eligible. Measles has been reported in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the Washington DC area.
The University of Missouri Healthcare Center infectious disease physician Taylor Nelson stated to KRCG that the measles spread is probably expected to the midwest and the west coast, owing to the existing disease cases, as reported by the Guardian.
What to do in case of infection contamination?
As per the instructions, the healthcare workers are asked to isolate the patients and notify the local and state health departments as soon as possible. Next, take the nose or throat swab tests. It is to make sure that all the patients are vaccinated against the disease in case of traveling internationally.
Moreover, As per the CDC instructions communicated via email, in most cases, measles cases originated from unvaccinated or under-vaccinated people who were traveling internationally and transferred the disease to others who were also not vaccinated against the disease.
According to the email, “The increased number of measles importations seen in recent weeks is reflective of a rise in global measles cases and a growing global threat from the disease,” the Guardian reported.
World Health Organization (WHO) states that even though measles is highly communicable, vaccines are effectively working against the disease.
What are the Measles symptoms?
It includes high fever, runny nose, cough, tiredness, watery red eyes, and eventually full body rashes. In the worst cases, it can also lead to death.

As per the experts, people who get the shot of the measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine become 93 percent protected against the disease. For maximum protection, two doses are recommended.
Those who had measles earlier in their lives are also protected against the disease. Measles is considered dangerous, especially for children.
